Equipment

Ingredients

Stir Fry and Drizzle Sauce (base)

  • 1/2 cup tamari or low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1-2 teaspoons finely grated ginger to taste
  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 small serrano or jalapeño pepper, thinly sliced seeded
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water

Dipping Sauce

  • 1/4 cup stir-fry & drizzle sauce
  • 1-2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Garnish

  • 1 stalk green onion, thinly sliced don't skip
  • 1 teaspoon chili oil optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon sriracha

Instructions

Stir Fry & Drizzle Sauce

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, add soy sauce, vinegar, maple syrup, ginger, garlic, and allspice powder. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
  • In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch with water, then whisk it into the sauce. Simmer for 2 minutes, until lightly thickened.
  • Remove from the heat, then add the serrano or jalapeño pepper.
  • I prefer tamari because its sodium level falls between that of regular soy sauce and low‑sodium soy sauce, giving the sauce great flavor without being overly salty. If you only have regular soy sauce, reduce it to 1/3 cup and add water to reach 1/2 cup.

Dipping Sauce

  • Mix the stir-fry sauce, water, sesame oil, and sesame seeds in a small mixing bowl.

Garnish

  • Garnish with green onion, sriracha, or chili oil to your taste.

Notes

Making the dipping sauce is more of an art than an exact science, depending on how much of the base recipe you use. Don't be afraid to adjust it according to your taste.
