Mock Mango Lassi

If you’re looking for a quick and refreshing drink, try this delicious Mock Mango Lassi. My husband, Will, makes his version of a Mango Lassi as a recovery drink after a long bike ride with his team. It includes yogurt for protein and mango nectar for a fruity energy boost he loves.

Ingredients

Using Trader Joe’s Organic Mango Nectar and plain whole milk Greek yogurt, this recipe is easy to make with only two ingredients!

Substitutions

My husband prefers plain whole‑milk Greek yogurt, but when Trader Joe’s is out, I swap in the Apricot Mango Greek yogurt. You can also use non‑fat or low‑fat Greek yogurt to reduce the fat content. If you don’t have access to TJ’s, here are substitutes I’ve used:

  • Any brand whole-milk Greek yogurt
  • Juicy Juice Mango Juice (100% juice)
  • Goya or Kerns Mango Nectar

Variations

The “shaken method” is my husband’s take on a mango lassi because it’s smooth and creamy. You can turn it into a great smoothie with a blender, using the variations below.

  • 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (extra protein)
  • 1/2 cup milk (any type you prefer)
  • 1 tablespoon Chia seeds (added nutritional benefits)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup (added sweetness)
  • A pinch of ground cardamom (hint of spice)

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Will’s version of a Mango Lassi different from the northwestern Indian version?

Will’s version uses Trader Joe’s Mango Nectar, a juice blend, and plain whole-milk Greek yogurt. For a traditional Mango Lassi, I recommend Swasthi’s Recipes Mango Lassi Recipe (Indian Mango Drink). It tastes as good as our local Indian restaurant.

What if I don’t have a Trader Joe’s near me?

Any brand of whole‑milk Greek yogurt works beautifully, and your grocery store’s mango nectar or mango juice is a perfect swap too!
